Warm currents from Brazil bring both exotic shells and stinging jellyfish to the waters of tranquil

There is plenty of local fishing activity, too, and if you go down to the beach in the evening you may see fishermen going out with horses which they use to take nets out into the sea. The only downside to the excellent dune-fringed beach is that cars are allowed onto it, and at times the ample beach can look like a vast parking lot. Fortunately, the central section, overlooked by Claromecó's tall and spindly lighthouse, is reserved for bathers, and if you head out beyond the last of the cars, some 8km to the west, you will come to a stretch of beach known as the
caracolero - a kind of exotic graveyard of large and beautiful shells, washed up from Brazil.
Lying to the west of Claromecó, on the other side of the Arroyo Claromecó, DUNAMAR is the more attractive of the two villages, bounded by forest, river and sea. There's not much to the place apart from sandy lanes and pine trees, but there are some pretty houses to rent and it's a good choice if you want to camp in a more natural environment.
There are two further balnearios on either side of Claromecó: Reta and Orense. Tiny ORENSE - also known as Punta Desnudez, with its distinctive rocky beach, is the smaller and wilder of the two; both are surrounded by dunes and have a hotel or two and campsites.
